The message type field indicates a type of the message. The transmission counter field indicates how many times the same message is transmitted, and a range of a value included in the transmission counter field is determined based on the type of the message indicated by the message type field. The interface unit receives a device information message from the other electronic device, and generates a profile for managing the other electronic device based on the device information message. The profile comprises at least one of a device information file containing specific information on the other electronic device, a node parameter file containing a node parameter designated for the other electronic device, a device operation file containing data on an operational state of the other electronic device, and a scenario file for defining supplementary services for the other electronic device.

The network layer of the master device creates a communication cycle description according to the received ReqMsgSend primitive, and the network layer of the slave device also creates a communication cycle description according to the received EventMsgSend primitive(S62). The network layers respectively create NPDUs(Network layer Protocol Data Units) by using the parameters of the communication cycle descriptions(S63). The network layer of the master device transmits the created NPDU to a data link layer by using a PktSend(Packet Send) primitive containing the NPDU according to a network layer service described in the communication cycle description. The network layer of the slave device also transmits the created NPDU to a data link layer by using a PktSend primitive containing the NPDU according to a communication cycle type value described in the communication cycle description(S64). If it is judged that communication cycle control has been completed(S65), the network layers delete their respective communication cycle descriptions(S68). Then the network layers deliver NLCompleted(Network Layer Completed) primitives including a code value which contains a reason of success or failure to their respective applications(S69).
