    • In a method of operating a combined cycle system including a gas turbine (14), a steam turbine (22,24) and a multi-pressure heat recovery steam generator, an improvement includes supplying (90,74) gas turbine cooling duty steam from a high pressure section (22) of the steam turbine and from an intermediate pressure evaporator (46) in the multi-pressure heat recovery steam generator, conducting the gas turbine cooling duty steam to the gas turbine for cooling hot gas turbine parts, and then returning the gas turbine cooling duty steam to an intermediate pressure section (24) of the steam turbine. In a start-up procedure, steam is extracted from a first pass (52) of a high pressure superheater (52,54,58) in the multi-pressure heat recovery steam generator, mixed with steam discharged from the high pressure superheater (58) and then supplied to the gas turbine cooling duty system. In this same start-up procedure, the gas turbine cooling duty steam is returned to the system condenser, bypassing the intermediate pressure section of the steam turbine. Related apparatus is also disclosed.

    • A waste-heat steam generator of a gas-turbine and steam-turbine system. The steam-generating heat content in the expanded working medium from the gas turbine is used for the steam turbine connected into a water/steam loop. Condensed steam from the steam turbine is supplied as condensate to the water/steam loop. A partial flow is diverted from the water-steam loop for selectively preheating the condensate or the fuel with the partial flow. To achieve high efficiency, irrespective of the fuel used for the gas turbine, when oil is used as the fuel for the gas turbine, the partial flow from the water/steam loop is used for condensate preheating. When gas is used as the fuel for the gas turbine, the partial flow is used for fuel preheating. A heat exchanger for the selective preheating either of the gas-turbine fuel or of the condensate with the partial flow is provided.

    • PURPOSE: A combined cycle system and method of operating combined cycle system is provided to achieve an improved net performance gain by substantially maintaining the desired steam temperature to the IP steam turbine inlet by passing the spent cooling steam and HP turbine exhaust steam in combination through the reheater and accepting the higher pressure drop penalty. CONSTITUTION: In a combined cycle system having a multi-pressure heat recovery steam generator(30), a gas turbine(14) and steam turbine(18), steam for cooling gas turbine components is supplied from the intermediate pressure section of the heat recovery steam generator supplemented by a portion of the steam exhausting from the HP section of the steam turbine, steam from the gas turbine cooling cycle and the exhaust from the HP section of the steam turbine are combined for flow through a reheat section(50) of the HRSG. The reheated steam is supplied to the IP section inlet(22) of the steam turbine. Thus, where gas turbine cooling steam temperature is lower than optimum, a net improvement in performance is achieved by flowing the cooling steam exhausting from the gas turbine and the exhaust steam from the high pressure section of the steam turbine in series through the reheater of the HRSG for applying steam at optimum temperature to the IP section of the steam turbine.

In a seawater desalinating machine comprising a vacuum system for heating brine in a seawater heater(4) by using low pressure steam received from a low pressure steam turbine(2) of a combined cycle power plant through a low pressure steam line(3), passing the brine through each stage of a multi-evaporation process plant through a seawater line(14) to generate flash, thereby produce distillate, sending the distillate to a distillate line(6), and receiving middle pressure steam from a back pressure steam turbine(7) through a middle pressure steam line(12) to form vacuum using an ejector(8), the seawater desalinating machine produces middle pressure steam in a flash vessel(11) using blowdown of a heat recovery steam generator(10) of the combined cycle power plant, supplies the middle pressure steam to the middle pressure steam line, and mixes hot water(13) with heated brine discharged from the seawater heater through a seawater line(14) when the hot water is remained after producing middle pressure steam in the flash vessel.
