    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium feeding device which is formed as a compatible structure mountable with both of two kinds of media varying in forms and which surely detects the accidental insertion of the respective media. SOLUTION: The medium feeding device which is configured to permit feeding of both of an LTO (linear take open) cartridge 30 and a DLT (digital linear tape) cartridge 40 and is attachably and detachably fitted to a library device 20 is provided with an accidental insertion detecting pawl 19 capable of detecting both of an LTO side notched part 32 formed at the LTO cartridge 30 and a DLT side notched part 42 formed at the DLT cartridge 40. When the cartridges 30 and 40 are accidentally inserted, the pawl 19 is displaced by the insertion of the cartridges 30 and 40 to project an accidental insertion preventive plate 16, by which the fitting thereof to the magnetic tape library device 20 (CAS housing 23) is obstructed.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a power supply to an LED/photosensor at a standby time and to reduce power consumption at the standby time by detecting cassette insertional operation at the standby time with a switch without power consumption instead of the LED/photosensor. SOLUTION: This device is constituted so that a detection switch 15 is arranged on a frame 12, and an on/off output is imparted to a system control microcomputer by a projection part 7b provided on a drive gear 7 according to the rotation of the drive gear 7. When a cassette is inserted, and a slider assembly 1a is pushed, the drive gear 7 is turned, and the detection switch 15 knob beforehand depressed by the projection part 7b is lifted up, and the detection switch 15 is changed from on into off. The microcomputer judges the insertion of the cassette by the off signal, and starts a regular mode from a power save mode at the standby time, and supplies power to the photosensor 13 and the LED to detect cassette loading and a cassette state hereafter. When recording/reproducing operation is ended, and the cassette is ejected, the power save mode at the standby time is set again.
