    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous resin composition which ensures the good appearance of a coating film and superior compounding stability with an unsaturated polymerizable monomer polymer, a method for manufacturing the same, and a metallic coating material.SOLUTION: The aqueous resin composition and the metallic coating material are characterized in that an unsaturated polymerizable monomer polymer (A) is emulsified with a cationic group-containing polyurethane resin (B). The method for producing the aqueous resin composition includes: a step of dispersing in water a solution containing an unsaturated polymerizable monomer (a) and a cationic group-containing isocyanate group-terminated urethane prepolymer (b); a step of emulsifying a cationic group-containing polyurethane resin (B) by chain elongation of the cationic group-containing isocyanate group-terminated urethane prepolymer (b) with water and/or a polyamine; and a step of yielding an unsaturated polymerizable monomer polymer (A) by polymerizing the unsaturated polymerizable monomer (a).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a recording sheet suitable for a white pigment layer of the recording sheet using an aqueous ink.
      SOLUTION: The binder for the recording sheet for the white pigment layer contains cationic acrylic emulsion of a copolymer which is obtained by emulsion-polymerizing a mixture of monomers selected from a group consisting of (meth)acrylates except an amino group-containing (meta)acrylic monomer using alkyl bis(2-hydroxyethyl) methyl ammonium chloride (EO=2) as a cationic emulsifier and which has a glass transition temperature of -40 to 80°C and a particle diameter of 50 to 300 nm. The binder for the recording sheet containing the cationic acrylic emulsion gives the recording sheet which shows a high print density, shows excellence in clearness and resolution, particularly shows good image preservation due to the water resistance, and further causes little omission of an absorbent such as silica. Since the binder has the characteristics, the binder is practically very advantageous.
