    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phenyl benzoate derivative sulfonate or its salt in a high yield under the control of hydrolysis.
      SOLUTION: This method for producing the phenyl benzoate derivative sulfonate represented by general formula (I) or its salt is characterized by sulfonating a phenyl benzoate derivative in a reaction solution having a water content of ≤500 ppm and using a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent. Therein, M is H or a cation; R is a substituent selected from alkyl, alkenyl, H, -OH, -NO
      2 , -SO
      3 X or -COOX (X is H or a cation), placed at either of the ortho-, meta- and para-positions of the benzene ring; (n) is an integer of 0 to 5.
