      PROCESS: A compound of formula II is nitrosated with nitrous acid, dinitrogen trioxide, dinitrogen tetroxide, etc. at -20W+10°C, preferably -5W0°C, to give the aimed compound of formula I .

    • PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a detergent, in high efficiency, by reacting a long-chain α-olefin with a bisulfite in a specific solvent mixture.
      CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by reacting a long-chain α-olefin with alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and/or ammonium bisulfite in a mixture of a 1W6C aliphatic alcohol, water and an aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. toluene) in the presence of an oxidation accelerating agent such as NaNO
      2 . The amount of the aromatic hydrocarbon is preferably ≥5vol% based on the sum of long-chain α-olefin, alcohol and water.
      EFFECT: The present process characterized by the use of a mixed solvent containing an aromatic hydrocarbon gives remarkably improved conversion compared with conventional process, and is extremely valuable from industrial viewpoint.
