    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying materials enabling to modify a material including slag or concrete crushed matter at a low cost such that a pH rise of water can be suppressed when water is brought into contact with the material, and further can be applied for the material after construction, too. SOLUTION: The material A including at least one selected from slag and concrete crushed matter is brought into contact with hydrogen carbonate B of an alkali metal in the presence of water. Ca 2+ eluted from slag and concrete crushed matter of the material A is reacted with CO 3 2- in hydrogen carbonate B dissolved in water to produce CaCO 3 and neutralize an alkali content. The surface of the slag and the concrete crushed matter is covered with the produced CaCO 3 and, therefore, an alkali component is hardly eluted from the slag and the concrete crushed matter.
