    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for dry-process manufacturing a printing roll which emits no environmental pollutants, is safe, and has beautiful image line recesses, and a novel technique for improving the qualities of printed matters.
      SOLUTION: The printing roll is provided comprising a DLC film layer having laser beam engraved grooves which serve as image line recesses and are formed over a carbide cermet-sprayed film formed on the surface of a roll substrate. The method is also provided comprising: forming a carbide cermet-sprayed film by a spraying method on the worked face of a roll substrate roughened with a blasting treatment so that the carbide cermet-sprayed film covers the worked face; grinding or grinding-polishing the surface of the carbide cermet-sprayed film; forming a DLC film on the surface after the grinding or grinding-polishing treatment so that the DLC film covers the surface; and then forming laser beam engraved grooves serving as image line recesses in the surface of the DLC film.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gravure printing machine which can form a comparatively thicker conductive paste film with excellent surface smoothness, and make long-lived a doctor blade for scraping off a surplus conductive paste from a gravure roll. SOLUTION: In this gravure printing machine, a plurality of cells 24 subdivided by a printing direction bank 21 and a perpendicular direction bank 22, are formed in an image defining line part 13 formed on the peripheral surface of the gravure roll 2. The perpendicular direction bank 22 is lower in height than the printing direction bank 21. Consequently, the cobwebbing of the conductive paste occurring in the part 13, is always generated only in the printing direction 15 without being influenced by the perpendicular direction bank 22. Thus the surface smoothness of the printed conductive paste film can be improved and at the same time, the conductive paste film can be made thick.
