P, S counters 303, 304 are used to measure each consecutive period of the intervals of P, S of the prosody patterns of a received signal and used for each consecutive pointer of the prosody timing table pairs to select the corresponding table pair (305, 306). The selected table description items are ANDed till the result is left in a storage section 308. The one candidate is coincident with the reception signal.
