    • PURPOSE:To obtain an electrophotographic photoreceptor which has high sensitivity at the short-wavelength side and exhibits superior reproducibility in the visible- ray range, by using a photosensitive layer which contains azo pigment as a charge carrier generating substance. CONSTITUTION:Azo pigment expressed by formula I [where X is a benzene ring, naphthalene ring, indole ring, carbazole ring, or benzole ring, Ar1; a benzene ring, naphthalene ring or dibenzofuran ring, Ar2; a benzene ring or naphthalene ring, R1 H; lower alkyl or phenyl, and R2; lower alkyl or carboxyl], such as formula [II], is used. On conductive base 1, photosensitive layer 2 composed of charge generating layer 5 of about 0.01-5mum in thickness consisting essentially of said azo pigment 3 and charge movement layer 6 of about 3-50mum in thickness consisting essentially of a charge movement substance (e.g. 2, 4, 7-trinitro-9-fluorene) is provided to obtain the photoreceptor.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azo pigment and an azo compound excellent in chromatic characteristics such as coloring power and a hue, and also excellent in durability such as light resistance. SOLUTION: An azo pigment or azo compound represented by general formula (2), a tautomer thereof, and a salt or a hydrate thereof are provided. In general formula (2), G 2 represents a H atom, an aliphatic group and the like; R 21 represents an amino group and the like, R 22 represents a substituent; A 2 represents a heterocyclic group; m represents an integer of 0-7; n represents an integer of 1-4, in the case of n=2, formula represents a dimer formed through R 21 , R 22 , G 2 or A 2 ; in the case of n=3, formula represents a trimer formed through R 21 , R 22 , G 2 or A 2 ; and in the case of n=4, formula represents a tetramer formed through R 21 , R 22 , G 2 or A 2 , when a plurality of G 2 , R 21 , R 22 , A 2 , m are present, each may be the same or different.
