    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To machine a rack product or a rack electrode of a variable gear ratio rack with high accuracy at low cost.
      SOLUTION: In the machining method for a variable gear ratio rack 20, a reciprocation cutting movement for vertically moving a rack material against a cutting blade of a pinion cutter 10 and cut-in for forwardly/rearwardly moving the rack material against the pinion cutter 10 are imparted using the pinion cutter 10 having the same tooth shape as that of a pinion gear product and a gear hobbing machine. The same relative feed speed as a relative movement speed of the pinion gear product and the rack product in the power steering device is imparted during the reciprocation/rotation movement of the pinion cutter 10 and the right/left movement of the rack material. Thereby, a variable gear ratio rack 20 is made in the rack material.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that, in a concave conical gear having concave tooth faces formed by use of a rack type rotary tool, a contact positional relation between tooth faces is not considered except for a pitch point, and therefore, a conical gear, to which high rotational accuracy is required, cannot be obtained.SOLUTION: A reference pitch circle radius of a concave conical gear 15 is denoted by rb, an inclination angle of a rack type rotary tool 9 is denoted by Ψ, and a position where a generatrix of a conical face, in which the rack type rotary tool 9 manufactures the concave conical gear 15, passes a pitch point Po on a tooth face of the concave conical gear 15 is defined as a reference position between the concave conical gear 15 and the rack type rotary tool 9. A concave tooth face 1 is formed in such a way that when the concave conical gear 15 rotates by a rotation angle φ from the reference position, the position of the rack type rotary tool 9 is shifted by a distance of rb×φ in a direction perpendicular to the gear axis and by a distance of -rb×φ×sinΨ in a tooth trace direction in the concave conical gear 15.
