    • PURPOSE:To obtain the high supporting rigidity of a workpiece with a compact structure by providing a fixed member fixed to an index body and a movable member which is displaceable along the axis of an index shaft on a supporting shaft device and providing coaxial sliding bearing faces on the fixed member and movable member. CONSTITUTION:The supporting shaft of a clamp device 2 consists of a movable supporting shaft 23 and a fixed supporting shaft 24. The movable supporting shaft 23 consists of a fixed shaft 26 and a centering member 28 having a taper 27 which is interporatingly engaged with a taper hole 9a. The fixed supporting shaft 24 has a boss 32 on which a taper 31 which is interporatingly engaged with a taper hole 9b is formed. When pressure oil is fed to the centering member 28 of the movable supporting shaft 23, the taper holes 9a, 9b are closely fitted to the tapers 27, 31 respectively and the clamp device 2 is accurately centered with respect to an index body 3 and fixed thereto. Thus, the structure of the index shaft can be simplified while obtaining high centering accuracy. Further, the contact areas between the shafts and shaft holes can be made relatively large to obtain a high shaft rigidity.

    • PURPOSE:To simplify the rotational starting and stopping of a chuck by forming the rotating part of the chuck giving rotary motion to a work piece of only rolling bodies, and moreover to improve the operational performance of the chuck by gripping a cylindrical work piece with its both ends protruding out of the chuck. CONSTITUTION:The rotary arms 34 of a toggle mechanism means 30 are mutually approached by supplying hydraulic fluid to a cylinder means 32 to cause grip rolling bodies 40a, 40b provided opposite to each other on the rotary arms to grip a work piece between them. A rotary driving means 18 is driven afterwards to transmit its rotary motion to the grip rolling bodies 40a, 40b through a driving pulley 21, the first idler 52a, the second idler 52b and a driven pulley 50. The work piece gripped between the grip rolling bodies is therefore given the rotary motion through the grip rolling bodies being opposite to each other with the work piece put between them. On the other hand, in releasing the work piece, the rotary driving means is stopped in its function to stop the rotation of the grip rolling bodies, and then the cylinder means 32 is made to function reversely to mutually separate the rotating arms.
