SOLUTION: The deduster is provided with a charging means that charges a substance to be collected, such as dust or mist, contained in a gas; a spray means that sprays a dielectric onto the charged substance charged by the charging means; an electric field forming means that generates a DC electric field rectangularly crossing the direction of the flow of the above gas, has a meshed electrode having a high opening degree not to interfere with the flow of the gas, and causes the dielectric polarization of the above dielectric by means of the above DC electric field; and a dielectric collecting means collecting the dielectric which has collected the substance to be collected. It is also possible that the electric field is generated by the dielectric itself by charging the dielectric.

SOLUTION: An exhaust gas treating equipment 10 employing the method for treating the exhaust gas has a mist diameter-enlarging device 18 provided at the stage prior to a wet-type desulfurization device 20. In the mist diameter- enlarging device 18, a liquid is sprayed from a nozzle 28 so that the temperature of the exhaust gas is cooled to 120 to 150 deg.C and the temperature of the exhaust gas is kept at 120 to 150 deg.C for at least 0.5 s.

A diaphragm 92 oscillated by an ultrasonic converter is disposed in adjoining relation to the lower end of the pipe 81. A liquid is supported on the diaphragm 92 and oscillated in order to generate a mist. A potential is established between the ion source 95 and the liquid so as to trap a carbon particle contained in a gas flow passing through the precipitator by a liquid droplet transferred to a container for the liquid in this case.

In addition, there is also provided a secondary gas cooling chamber 39 cooperatively installed just below the air preheater 34 so as to inject cooling water to the combustion discharged gas 6 fed from the air preheater 34, cool the combustion discharged gas 6 and feed it to a filter device 41.
