    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reforming ethylene gas into ethane and water with OH radical produced in water drops through irradiating ultraviolet rays to a water retention body attached with water drops. SOLUTION: This method for reforming ethylene gas comprises supplying water so as to attach in a granular form to an air-permeable water retention body 2a formed on a water retention surface holding water in a granular form on a surface, keeping the water retention surface in a wet condition with water drops, and irradiating ultraviolet rays S of wavelength of 254 nm to water attached to the water retention surface from a close range of less than 10 mm while controlling the vicinity of an ultraviolet ray irradiation tube 3 at 10°C-40°C to produce OH radical R in water drops M with energy of the irradiated ultraviolet rays. Furthermore, the method comprises ventilating vapor containing ethylene gas to the water retention surface holding water containing the OH radical, and reforming ethylene gas E contacting with the action of the OH radical R into ethane e and water w.
