    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanning device in which the deterioration of image quality is prevented, by fixing a light source driving pattern having a large number of divisions for main-scanning-position error correction of a designed central value, and correcting only the main scanning positional error due to the variation in the tolerance, by referring to a variable table having a small number of divisions, and to provide an image forming apparatus.
      SOLUTION: The optical scanning device includes: a deflection unit 106, which scanningly deflects a luminous flux from a light source by sine oscillation; a surface to be scanned by the deflected luminous flux; a first main-scanning-position error correction unit 402, which divides the face to be scanned by a first division number in a main scanning direction, individually setting a clock pulse timing for every divided region of the first division number, and corrects the main-scanning-position error; and a second main-scanning-position error correction unit 401, which divides the face to be scanned by a second division number in the main scanning direction, individually setting the clock pulse timing for each divided region of the second division number, and corrects the main-scanning position error, on the basis of the first main-scanning position correction data.

      SOLUTION: When a counter is cleared by a detection signal DETP_N of a synchronization detecting plate 31b, a measurement clock ICLK is counted by the counter 71. The count number N of the counter 71 is output to a control part 72 according to a detection signal EDETP_N of a back-end synchronization detecting plate 61 (step S1301). Next, the control part 72 compares the measured count number N with a preset reference count number N0 (step S1302). Subsequently, a count number N' for use in the correction of a main scanning magnification is computed by the expression: N'=N-3/4 (step S1303). A writing clock frequency f' after the correction is computed by the expression: f'=f×N0/N' (step S1304). This can avoid an influence exerted on the main scanning magnification by the correction brought about by a phase-variable function.
