    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the impossibility of gas supply in a gas channel narrowed and closed by water in a fuel cell whose electrolyte includes water.
      SOLUTION: A separator comprises a separator base plate 16 having no pores, and spacer plates 14, 15 interposed between electrodes 12, 13 and the separator base plate. The spacer plate with cross section formed in a rectangular wave shape has tops of the rectangular waves contacting with the electrodes as gas diffusions 141, 151 with mesh-like structure and midslopes and bottoms of the adjacent rectangular waves as spacers 142, 152 defining the gas channels between the gas diffusions and the separator base plate. The spacers are equipped with gas flow pores 143, 153 to mutually communicate the adjacent gas channels. This enables a gas supply to the gas channel downstream narrowed and closed due to the retention of water droplets.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell which maintains the surface pressure between a large number of electrolyte and electrode assemblies and a current collector part and has a large power generation amount, while having a simple and compact structure.
      SOLUTION: In the fuel cell 10, eight electrolyte and electrode assemblies 26 are interposed in between a set of separators 30, 30. The separator 30 is constructed by laminating a first plate 32, a third plate 36, and a second plate 34 in this order. A fuel gas passage 76, communicating with a fuel gas supply communication hole 38, is formed between the first plate 32 and the third plate 36; and this fuel gas passage 76 has a fuel gas pressure chamber 88 between a first disc part 42 of the first plate 32 and a third disc part 66 of the third plate 36; whereas an oxidizer gas passage 90, which is opened to the atmosphere is formed between the second plate 34 and the third plate 36, and this oxidizer gas passage 90 has an oxidant gas pressure chamber 92, between a second disc part 58 of the second plate 34 and the above third disc part 66.
