    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium cell which can continuously increase a negative electrode capacity of the magnesium cell.SOLUTION: The magnesium cell includes: a negative electrode 110 constituted by magnesium; and a liquid-retaining part 120 which can retain an aqueous electrolyte capable of eluting magnesium ion from the negative electrode 110. The liquid-retaining part 120 retains the aqueous solution of citrate as the aqueous electrolyte to continuously generate an electromotance between the negative electrode 110 and a positive electrode. Consequently, complex is formed between a citrate ion and the magnesium ion eluted from the negative electrode 110 and solubility of the magnesium ion increases. As a result, deposition of magnesium oxide is suppressed and continuous electrolysis of magnesium is possible at the negative electrode 110, the negative electrode capacity of a magnesium cell 100 can be continuously made large.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mercury-free alkaline dry battery capable of sufficiently suppressing corrosion of zinc and evolution of hydrogen gas caused by mixing of Fe in a mercury-free state, and decreasing the amount of voltage drop in pulse discharge at low temperatures.
      SOLUTION: The mercury-free alkaline dry battery has a positive mix pellet and a gel-like negative electrode 6. The gel-like negative electrode 6 is manufactured by dispersing zinc alloy powder which is a negative active material in a gel-like alkali electrolyte (a dispersion medium). An anionic surface active agent and a quaternary ammonium salt cationic surface active agent are added to the negative electrode 6, and suppression of gas evolution in the negative electrode and suppression of voltage drop in pulse discharge at low temperature are made compatible.
