    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stably operable electron emission element of high electron emission efficiency, by simple constitution. SOLUTION: The electron emission element includes an insulating layer having side faces, a recess formed on the side face of the insulating layer, a gate electrode arranged in an upper side of the recess, and a wedge-shaped emitter arranged in the periphery of a lower side of the recess and having the first sloped face in a recess side and the second sloped face in a side opposite to the recess. A lower end of the first sloped face of the emitter is made to intrude into the recess, and both the first sloped face and the second sloped face of the emitter are inclined toward an outside of the recess.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a variation in brightness center of gravity due to deflection of electron beams in a simple structure.SOLUTION: The image display includes a gate electrode 4 to which a gate potential is impressed and a cathode electrode 5 to which a cathode potential different from the gate potential is impressed and which has strip parts 5a of a plurality of cathode electrodes and opposes the gate electrode 4 to which the strip parts of the cathode electrode correspond with gap parts interposed, and each of the gap parts has an electron emitting element 34 functioning as an electron emitting part 12 as a potential of a difference between the gate potential and the cathode potential is impressed and a light emitting member which emits light by receiving irradiation of electrons emitted from the electron emitting part. The strip parts 5a of the plurality of cathode electrodes are aligned in rows and the gaps p1-p5 between the strip parts of the cathode electrodes neighboring each other are larger in central regions than the edge part regions of the rows of the electron emitting part.
