    • PURPOSE:To prevent stain after development without causing reduction in sensitivity by using at least one kind of sensitizing dye represented by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A sensitizing dye represented by formula I such as a compound represented by formula IV is synthesized by a specified means and dispersed directly in an emulsion by 4X10 -1X10 mol per 1mol silver halide. The dye may be dissolved in a proper solvent such as methanol and added to the emulsion in the form of a soln. In the formula I, each of Z and Q is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; R is (substituted) alkyl or a substituent represented by formula II; R is H, (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) aryl, a heterocyclic group or a substituent represented by formula III; Y is a group of nonmetallic atoms capable of forming cyclic imido; each of L1 and L2 is (substituted) methine; each of h and i is an integer of 2-5; l is 1 or 2; and m is an integer of 1-4. The resulting emulsion is used in the manufacture of various colors and black-and-white sensitive silver halide materials such as an emulsion for a color positive (negative) and sensitive materials for an engraving, X-ray recording and heat development.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a photosensitive material small in change of photographic characteristics, such as deterioration of sensitivity and increase of fog, due to time lapse by forming a silver halide emulsion layer spectrally sensitized with a novel merocyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive material stable in storage under high temp. and high humidity, sensitivity, fog, and gradation, and especially high in green- sensitivity can be obtained by incorporating in the silver halide emulsion layer as a spectral sensitizer a compd. represented by the formula shown here in which Z is a nonmetallic atomic group necessary for forming an oxazolidine ring, 3H-oxazole ring, 3H-benzoxazole ring, or 3H-naphthoxazole ring; R1 is alkyl; R2 is halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, or H; (A) is CN, alkylsulfonyl, sulfonamide, alkylsulfonylamino, or lower alkoxy; and n is 1-4.
