    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient color projection display device by splitting an illumination beam to plural luminous flux of different wavelength bands with a reflection type liquid crystal and a dichroic polarizing beam splitter, making them incident on a liquid crystal panel at mutually different angles and generating a color image.
      SOLUTION: The illumination beam (white luminous flux) from a white light source 1 is made incident on the dichroic polarizing beam splitter 7 as the white luminous flux of only S polarization. Then, it is splitter to three primary colors by surfaces of B, R, G, and transmit through a lens element 8 to be converged on respective pixels on the reflection type liquid crystal 9. The luminous flux reflected here transmits again through the lens element 8 to be made incident on the dichroic polarizing beam splitter 7, and only the luminous flux of P polarization, that is, the luminous flux reflected by the on pixel of the reflection type liquid crystal 9 transmits through the splitter 7, and is made incident on a projection optical system 11 to be image projected.

    • PURPOSE:To increase the wavelength separation characteristics without increasing the loss of light, by providing the reflective filters that perform plural times of refrection by a wavelength selection film in the same number of types of light wavelengths between the dielectric substrate or within a dielectric substrate. CONSTITUTION:Among the incident beams of wavelengths lambda1 and lambda2, the beam of wavelength lambda1 is reflected by an interference film 14 and then reflected several times between the interference films 13 and 14 to be deliverd. While the beam lambda2 transmits through the film 14 and reflected by an interference film 16 and then reflected several times between the films 15 and 16 to be delivered. Thus the output beam passes through plural reflective filters to improve the wavelength separation characteristics. Furthermore the loss of light is reduced due to those reflective filters. And the output beam is radiated in the same direction as the incident beam. Accordingly the handling is facilitated for the device with a compact structure in which dielectric substrate 10-12 are just distributed in parallel.
