    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accelerating performance at the time of full-bore starting, while preventing damage of belts of a belt type continuously variable transmission. SOLUTION: In this variable speed controller, a CVT control unit controls change gear ratio in accordance with a shifting line at the time of full admission when throttle opening is substantially full but a vehicle is before starting and when the throttle opening is substantially full and the vehicle is going to start, the change gear ratio is controlled in accordance with the shifting line at the time of full opening for starting as the upper limit of the number of revolutions of the primary pulley is set higher than the shifting line at the time of full-throttle acceleration. When the throttle opening is substantially full and the vehicle is going to start, the number of revolutions of the primary pulley is higher than the upper limit of the number of revolutions of the primary pulley in the shifting line at the time of full-bore and when the number of times exceeding the belt warranty upper limit surpasses the guaranteed frequency number of times to guarantee the belt strength, the change gear ratio is controlled in accordance with the shifting line at the full opening time instead of the shifting line at the full open starting time even when the throttle opening is substantially full and the vehicle is starting.
