    • PURPOSE: To provide a smooth synchronizing action at the time of speed change, by making accleration of a counter shaft possible in relation to the main shaft when the gear is shifted to a low speed step through engagement of a gear which is coupled to the counter shaft through a clutch, with a gear secured to the main shaft of a gear type speed change unit.
      CONSTITUTION: A gear type speed change unit consists of fifth speed W first speed main gears 7W11 and a backward moving main gear 12, rotatably mounted to a main shaft 5, fifth speed W first speed auxiliary gears 13W17 and a backward moving auxiliary gear 18, secured to a counter shaft 6, and first and second synchronizing mechanisms 19, 20 and an engaging mechanism 21 are located between main gears 7 and 8, 9 and 10, and 11 and 12, respectively. In this case, a second gear 22 is secured to the right end of the main shaft 5, and a second gear 23, engaging with the gear 22 and having a diameter smaller than that of the gear 22, is pivotally secured to a counter shaft 6. A wet type clutch 24 is situated between the second gear 23 and the counter shaft 6, and this permits the two shafts 1 and 6 to be interconnected to each other through the two gears 22 and 23 when the gear is shifted to a low speed step.
