    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a flow rate of fluid in a flow passage when a valve element is fully opened.
      SOLUTION: The butterfly valve 1 is provided with a valve stem 5 crossing the flow passage 4; and a plate-like valve element 7 provided on the valve stem 5. The valve element 7 is turned making the valve stem 5 as a center to adjust a flow rate of air in the flow passage 4. The valve element 7 forms a tapered cross section for gradually reducing a thickness from the valve stem shaft 5 toward an outer end in a direction perpendicular to the valve stem 5. Further, the valve element 7 includes a plurality of tapered surfaces 8a, 8b having the same tapered cross sections on both front and back surfaces in a direction parallel to the valve stem 5. On both front and back surfaces of the valve element 7, a plurality of flow regulation ribs 9a-9c extending in a direction perpendicular to the valve stem 5 and inclined along the tapered surfaces 8a, 8b are provided.
