    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strongly bond a heat insulating coating material or a heat shielding coating material (heat shield film) to a wall surface of a combustion chamber when the heat shield film is formed by applying the heat insulating coating material or the heat shielding coating material onto the wall surface of the combustion chamber.SOLUTION: A combustion chamber structure of an engine 10 includes a combustion chamber 16 demarcated by a cylinder bore 12, a lower surface of a cylinder head 15, and an apex of a piston 13, in which at least a part of a wall surface of the combustion chamber 16 is configured from aluminum or an aluminum alloy. The combustion chamber structure of the engine 10 also includes a plurality of dimples 24 disposed to increase a surface area of the wall surface of the combustion chamber 16, on the wall surface of the combustion chamber 16 configured from the aluminum or the aluminum alloy; a boehmite coating film 25 formed on the wall surface of the combustion chamber 16 where the plurality of dimples 24 are disposed; and a heat shield film 23 that is disposed on the surface of the boehmite coating film 25 and formed by applying a heat insulating coating material or a heat shielding coating material onto the surface of the boehmite coating film 25.
