    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost by improving durability of a reverse rotation preventing means of a transportation roller. SOLUTION: A helical gear 6 of twist angle 45 degrees is attached on a left side shaft end of a roller shaft 35 of a relay roller 3 and rotates together with the roller shaft 35. The helical gear 6 is connected to an idler unit 8 which consists of a shaft 8d and a two stage gear 8b rotating around the shaft 8d. The two stage gear 8b is formed as one piece from a helical gear 8b-1 of twist angle 45 degrees and a spur gear 8b-2, and the spur gear 8b-2 is attached to the shaft 8d via a one-way clutch 8c. The helical gear 8b-1 and the helical gear 6 mesh at twist angle 45 degrees and transmit drive force between two shafts crossing at 90 degrees. Consequently, the spur gear 8b-2 of the two stage gear 8b of the idler unit 8 and a gear 7 attached on a shaft end of an auger 5 of a waste toner tank 1 mesh via an idler gear 9, the relay roller 3 side and the auger 5 side can be driven by one drive source.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the influence of backlash on a power transmission mechanism between a motor and timing rollers, and reduce relative image shift to be generated between recording sheets as far as possible.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a convey device which brings a leading edge of a recording sheet into contact with a nip portion of stopped timing rollers, and starts rotation to convey the recording sheet toward a toner image transfer position.
