摘要： An embodiment of a paper feed apparatus (10) is provided with a pressure varying mechanism (20) that varies a load pressure of a pickup roller (R1) to originals (P). The pressure varying mechanism (20) has a rotating lever (22) that switches the load pressure, a rotating arm (21) that contacts and presses against a swinging arm (6) of the pickup roller (R1), and a biasing portion (23) that biases the rotating arm (21) to the swinging arm (6) when the rotating arm (21) contacts to the swinging arm (6). When continuously reading a wad of originals (P) in which different-size originals are mixed, due to a user operating the rotating lever (22), the load pressure to the originals (P) is increased by making the rotating arm (21) contact to the swinging arm (6) such that the swinging arm (6) is pressed by the biasing portion (23).

SOLUTION: A sheet feeding device includes a pressure changing means 20 to change the load pressure of the pickup roller on a manuscript sheet, and the means 20 is equipped with a changeover lever 22 to change over the load pressure, a rotary lever 21 to abut to a swing arm 6 of the pickup roller and press it, and an energization part 23 to energize the lever 21 toward a support shaft when the lever 21 abuts to the swing arm 6. When a manuscript bundle containing manuscript sheets having different sizes in mixture is to be read continuously, the rotary lever 21 is abutted to the swing arm 6 by turning the changeover lever 22 by the user to cause the energization part 23 to press the swing arm 6, and thereby the load pressure on the manuscript sheet is increased.
