    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the accuracy and tip life of a gear in tooth space machining by a throwaway type gear cutter.
      SOLUTION: The bottom faces of tip seats alternately disposed on both side faces of the outer peripheral edge part of an annular tool body 1 are detachably mounted with tips 4 of polygonal plate shape abutting on the lower faces in the thickness direction, by attaching screws 7 from the side face side of the tool body 1. The intersecting ridgelines of a side face 4c, facing forward in the rotating direction K of the tool body, of the tip, and an upper face 4a facing the side part of the tool body, are formed as cutting edge ridges 5a, 5b for cutting the bottom and tooth face part of an involute gear. A cutter angle defined by the side face and the upper face is set to 65-80°, and a perpendicular rake angle defined by the cutting edge ridge and the side face is set into a range of 5-20°.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a milling insert (4) and a milling tool (1) for the milling of a slot in a work piece (2).SOLUTION: The milling insert includes: an under side (11); an opposite upper side (12) that forms a chip outflow surface and is parallel to an extension plane (P); and a flank (13) between the upper side and the under side. A cutting edge, which extends between the flank and the chip outflow surface, includes a primary main cutting edge (15), a secondary main cutting edge (16), and an end cutting edge (17). The end cutting edge 17 connects the primary main cutting edge and the secondary main cutting edge, and borders on the primary main cutting edge at a primary transition point (15') and on the secondary main cutting edge at a secondary transition point (16'). A normal to the extension plane of the chip outflow surface forms an acute clearance angle with the flank along the cutting edge. The end cutting edge is curved from the primary transition point to the secondary transition point.
