    • PURPOSE:To enable a milling cutter to be easily turned into a multi-edge type to facilitate the replacement of edge parts, by forming stepped parts in the outer periphery of a cutter body, and by attaching cartridges each having more than two edge parts to the stepped parts so that cutting edges are arranged at equal intervals over the entire periphery of the cutter body. CONSTITUTION:A rotary extending from the body of a milling machine is fitted in a large diameter hole 12 formed in the center section of a cutter body 10. Bolt through-holes 18a, 18b are formed in each of stepped parts 16 which are in turn formed in the outer peripheral section of a cutter body 10. Then, cartridges 22 are arranged on these stepped parts 16 with no gaps therebetween. Each cartridge 22 is composed of a body part 22a and an edge part 22b having a plurality of cutting edges 22c and a relief groove 22d. Bolts 30a, 30b are made to piece through holes 26a, 26b in the cartridges 22, and are screwed at their end parts in the holes 18a, 18b in the cutter body 10, thereby the cartridges 22 are secured to the cutter body 10.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform high speed cutting and as well the cutting of ultra-hard materials, by constituting a main chip with a rod-like center side chip made of a high-pressure phase sintered member and having a substantially quarter circle cross sectioned shape, and an outer peripheral side chip which is made by sintering and securing a cutting knife layer formed of high-pressure phase sintered member on an ultra-hard alloy substrate. CONSTITUTION:A main cutting knife chip 4 is formed of a rod-like center side chip made of a high-pressure phase sintered material of cubic boron nitride, diamond or the like and having a substantially quarter circle cross-sectioned shape, and an outer peripheral side chip 6 which is made by sintering and securing a cutting knife layer 12 made of a high-pressure phase sintered material, on a substrate 10 made of, for example, ultra-hard alloy. In this case, the cutting face 9 of the center side chip 5 is formed as an arcuated surface or a plurality of stepped surfaces, and the planar cutting face 10 of the outer peripheral side chip 6 is made continuous to the cutting surface 9. With this arrangement, high speed cutting and as well the cutting of ultrahard materials may be made.
