    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder composition for mold molding capable of increasing productivity of a mold and improving the working environment in molding by increasing the curing rate of an acid-curable resin and the strength of a mold, and a method for manufacturing a mold using the same.SOLUTION: A binder composition for mold molding includes an acid-curable resin and 0.1 to 10 wt.% of aromatic carboxylic acid having at least one hydroxy group. Preferably, the binder composition for mold molding further contains a bivalent or trivalent metal element in an amount of 0.01 to 0.7 wt.% in terms of metal element content.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a binder for molding sand by which a casting mold having considerably improved thermal collapsing property by consisting the same essentially of the resulting product of reaction of isocyanuric acid or polyhydric hydroxyl compd. having an isocyanuric ring and formaldehyde. CONSTITUTION:When formalin is added to an aq. soln. obtd. by dispersing or dissolving partly an isocyanuric acid into warm or hot water to bring the same into reaction, a methylol isocyanuric acid is obtd. Such resulting product of reaction has self-curability and cures on heating. Such product is usable as a binder by diluting the same to a suitable viscosity with a solvent, such as water, in the stage of manufacturing resin coated sand. The casting mold or core made of such binder has warm strength and a thermal collapsing property. A polyhydric hydroxyl compd. having an isocyanuric ring may be used in place of an isocyanuric acid.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain titled sand grains which are low in odor and have excellent bending strength, etc. by adding urea to the heated sand grains and solid resol type phenolic resin during kneading in the stage of kneading said sand grains and resin and obtaining the titled sand grains. CONSTITUTION:The resin coated sand for a shell mold is produced by kneading the heated sand grains and the solid resol type phenolic resin. The urea is added at 0.5-5.0pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. the solid resol type phenolic resin during kneading in the above-mentioned method. The addition of the urea can be executed by an either method of mixing the urea into the solid resol type phenolic resin or dissolving the urea to cooling water and adding the cooling water to the resin. The latter method is more preferable as the addition is easy with said method. The resin coated sand for the shell mold having the excellent bending strength is thus produced even if the amount of the resin to be used is small.
