    • PURPOSE:To detect a minute step difference variation, and to elevate certainty and safety of detection, by detecting a step difference caused by thickness of a strip in the tip part of a cylindrically wound coil, by an air pressure detector. CONSTITUTION:When a driving motor of a winding device 2 starts to rotate in the direction as indicated with an arrow (a), an arm 20 jets compressed air from a nozzle 24 along the outside circumferential angle of a coil 1. When a step difference part of a strip rotates until it passes through a position of the nozzle 24, a variation of air pressure is transmitted to an air amplifier and a static transducer through an air pressure piping tube 28. By this signal, the driving motor of the winding device is further rotated so that the tip of the coil comes to this side of a holding roll 10, and thereafter, is reversed in the direction (b), and a band 26 is cut by an edged tool 19. Also, the motor is rotated to a leading position for feeding out the tip of the strip to the following side reamer. In this way, the coil tip position is detected automatically, the band is cut, it becomes possible to feed it out to the following machine, energy saving and speed-up are realized, and safety is raised.
