    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a multilayer coating films, capable of forming a multilayer coating film excellent in chipping resistance without sacrificing a coating appearance in a three-coat one-bake method using aqueous coloring base paint. SOLUTION: The method for the formation of multilayer coating films includes steps of: applying a first aqueous coloring base paint (A) over a cured coating film of electrodeposition paint to form a first coloring base coating film thereon; subsequently applying a second aqueous coloring base paint (B) over the first coloring base coating film without preheating the same to form a second coloring base coating film; thereafter preheating the first coloring base coating film and the second coloring base coating film; subsequently applying clear paint (C) over the second coloring base coating film to form a clear coating film; and simultaneously heating and curing the three layers of coating films to be formed. The method for the formation of multilayer coating films includes the first aqueous coloring base paint (A) and the second aqueous coloring base paint (B) each individually contain a talc pigment in an amount of 1 to 5 mass% relative to the total solid resin component contained in each of the first aqueous coloring base paint (A) and the second aqueous coloring base paint (B).
