    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a phase change ink composition which contains stable pigment particles uniformly dispersed and is thermally stable.
      SOLUTION: The phase change ink composition comprises a phase change ink carrier and pigment particles, where the carrier comprises at least one nonpolar component and at least one polar component. The manufacturing method thereof comprises a step for selecting at least one polar carrier component functioning as a dispersant of the pigment particles, a step for mixing the pigment particles with the dispersant, a step for forming a pigment dispersion by extruding from an extruder the mixture of the pigment particles with the dispersant at a temperature equal to or higher than the peak crystallization temperature of the dispersant and lower than the peak melting temperature of the dispersant, and a step, subsequent to extrusion of the pigment dispersion, for adding any remaining polar components and nonpolar components to the pigment dispersion, and a step for subjecting the resulting mixture of the pigment dispersion, the polar components and the nonpolar components to high-shear mixing to form an ink.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing process and phase inversion ink that have improved adherence of image to paper, improved image permanence, improved robustness against mechanical stress, and improved image characteristics including surface gloss level.SOLUTION: A phase separation ink includes: a crystallizable component that crystallizes as it cools from a first ink discharge temperature to a second lower temperature; an amorphous component including a material that remains amorphous at the second temperature; and an optional colorant; wherein the crystallizable component and the amorphous component are in a molten, single phase state at the first ink discharge temperature; wherein at the second temperature, the phase separation ink includes a crystalline phase including the crystallizable component and an amorphous phase including the amorphous component; and wherein the amorphous phase substantially penetrates into the final image-receiving substrate and the crystalline phase substantially remains on the surface of the final image-receiving substrate.
