    • PURPOSE:To greatly release the limitation of a reflecting substance at a installing place, by storing the contents of a reflected wave in the steady state into a detector and constantly comparing between the reflected wave and storage contents to recognize the entry of a substance to be detected. CONSTITUTION:A reference pattern of the steady state is stored in a shift register 17 when a prescribed priod of time elapses after the application of a power source, and the detection is possible for a substance. If a shifting abnormal reflected substance enters an ultrasonic wave radiating region, the output of an FF15 which functions as a temporary storage circuit for received signals becomes different from the contents of the reference patterns within a register 17. Then an FF24 is set if no coincidence is obtained through a comparator 18 between the above-mentioned output and contents. With the prescribed times of arrival of such transmission/reception cycle, a terminal Q2 of a universal shift register 25 is roduced to H to actuate a light emitting diode 29, etc. in a detection display output circuit 27. Thus the detection of an abnormal reflecting substance is displayed. In such way, no obstacle exists as long as the substance to be detected is a stationary body such as a column, etc. exists within the ultrasonic wave radiating region. Thus the degree of freedom is increased for the installating place.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance directional characteristics without increasing a diameter/ wavelength ratio, by a method wherein an emitting direction is changed stepwise and the sizes of reflected angles in a same time zone at every step angle are compared to determine the direction or the distance of an object. CONSTITUTION:At first, ultrasonic waves are emitted by directional beam 1 in the direction of an angle theta0 and output signals a0, b0 of a sound wave receiving amplifier to be stored. At second, ultrasonic waves are emitted by directional beam 2 in the direction of an angle theta1 are emitted. At this time, the reflected signal a1 of an object A comes to 1/2 with respect to the direction theta0 while the signal b1 of an object B is doubled and both signals are stored. At third, ultrasonic waves are emitted by directional beam 3 in the direction of an angle theta-1 to obtain amplifier outputs a-1, b-1 which are, in turn, stored. When the stored signal levels of a same time zone are compared on the basis of the direction theta0 and, only in such a case that the signal in the direction theta0 is largest in the same time zone, it is outputted as an object signal, error measurement is eliminated because a0 remains and b0 is removed.
