The exhaust gas treatment agent contains MgO+Mg(OH)of 5 wt.% or more in terms of MgO, and has a specific surface area of 30 m/g or more and less than 50 m/g, and a fine pore volume of 0.15 cm/g or more and less than 0.3 cm/g.
