    • PURPOSE: To obtan a polyarylene sulfide extremely reduced in the generation of burrs on its injection molding, high in the shear rate dependency of the melt viscosity and excellent in moldability by specifying the melt viscosity and the shear rate. CONSTITUTION: The polyarylene sulfide has a melt viscosity V6 of 300-4000 poises and a relation of the inequality between the melt viscosity V6 and the shear rate N. The method for producing the polyarylene sulfide comprises feeding (A) an alkali metal sulfide, (B) a dihalogenoaromtic compound and (C) an aromatic compound having three or more functional groups into a reaction system in a component A/B molar ratio of 0.97-1.02 and in a component C/A molar ratio of 0.002-0.015, reacting the fed compounds in a polar solvent, adding (D) a mol.wt.-controlling agent to the reaction system in an amount of 0.001-0.02 mole per mole of the fed component A, and further continuing the reaction. The component A, the component B, the component C and the component D are preferably sodium sulfide, p-dichlorobenzene, dichloroaniline, etc., and thiophenol, etc., respectively.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylene sulfide resin composition having antimicrobial and antifungal activities by blending a polyarylene sulfide with an antimicrobial substance provided with a chelation site having a metallic ion such as copper, silver or zinc as a complex salt and a specific functional group in the same molecule. SOLUTION: This polyarylene sulfide resin composition is obtained by blending (A) 100 pts.wt. polyarylene sulfide (e.g. polyphenylene sulfide) with (B) 0.1-3.0 pts.wt. antimicrobial substance comprising a compound represented by formulae I to IV, etc., and provided with a chelation site having a metallic ion selected from the group consisting of copper, silver and zinc as a complex salt and at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of epoxy group, an alkoxysilyl group, amino group and vinyl group in the same molecule and further (C) 0-200 pts.wt. inorganic filler (e.g. a glass fiber), mixing the prepared blend in a Henschel mixer and then melt kneading the obtained mixture with a twin-screw extruder, etc. The resultant polyarylene sulfide resin composition has excellent antimicrobial and antifungal activities and is capable of sustaining the properties for a long period.
