    • PURPOSE: To provide a thickness measuring method in which a thickness can be measured precisely and quickly by installing guide rollers at the entrance and the exit of a micrometer gage and forming the contact face of a gage head with a sheet to be a sphere. CONSTITUTION: A micrometer is provided with a gage head and with an air cylinder which moves the gage head to a released state from a measuring state, and a ruby sphere which is about 3mm in diameter is attached to the tip of the head. The contact face of the head comes into pressure contact with the surface of an object, to be measured, by means of a spring at a speed of about 300mm/sec and under a load of about 15 to 20g. Guide rollers on the entrance side and the exit side are installed before and after a measuring point, and the undulation of the object, to be measured, which is running is corrected. The sheet which has been passed through a measuring apparatus advances to a next process via a reversing roll. At this time, two micrometers are used for one measuring point, their heads are installed so as to be faced with each other on the same line, the thickness of the sheet is measured respectively around a passage line, both pieces of measured data are added, and the thickness of the sheet is found.
