    • PURPOSE:To enable a liquid gasket to satisfactorily follow a shift of jointed surfaces or an opening, by containing 5 to 50vol% of granular filler having particles of a diameter of about 0.11mm. and is hard to be broken against compression, into a liquid gasket. CONSTITUTION:Granular filler such as, for example, glass particles (glass beads), iron particles or plastic particles (plastic powder) which is insuolble to organic solvent such as polypropylene, polyethylene or the like, is contained at 5 to 50vol% in a, for example, viscoelastic liquid gasket. The rate of the content of the granular material depends on the particle size thereof. For example, in order to maintain 0.01mm. of self-clearance, it is necessary to contain 5% of granular filler having particles of at least 0.1mm. diameter. If the content of granular filler is less than 5vol%, the layer of the liquid gasket is blown out by fluid pressure so that leak is brought about, and if the content is more than 50vol%, the gasket layer itself is caused to deteriorate which is not preferable.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain stability of long period and high reliability to grooved type flanges of various shapes, by casting liquid sealing material in the groove of the grooved type flange into which an annular bank of one of joint surfaces is fitted, and pressingly mating both joint surfaces after the sealing material is cured. CONSTITUTION:A circular bank 3 on one of flanges is abutted to a sealing material 7 which is made resilient in a groove 5, and then the opposite surfaces of both flanges are pressingly contacted together by fastening a bolt 6 so that sealing is obtained. Since the sealing material 7 is held in a thickness larger than the clearance between the top of the bank 3 and the bottom of the groove 5, the sealing material 7 is partly built up into the gaps each defined between one of the lateral walls of the circular bank 3 and the associated lateral wall of the groove 5 when both flanges are mated at their opposed contacting surfaces 8 in the condition of metal touch. Thereby, the surface pressure exerted to the outer surface of the resilient material 7 given with resiliency, is relaxed so that it is not subjected directly to rigid strain due to flange vibration, thereby liquid leakage due to pumping action may be prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent leakage of oil and improve the incorporating property of a pan by a method wherein liquid gasket is coated on the protruded arcic surface of a member at the side of an engine and the oil pan, coated with the liquid gasket on the mounting surface thereof, is pressed against and fixed to the engine side member when the liquid gasket, coated on the engine side member, is dried or half dried. CONSTITUTION:The semi-arcic protruded surface of an oil seal retainer 6 of the engine side member, which is positioned so as to oppose to the recessed arciform surface 4 of the oil pan 2, is the mounting surface for the oil pan and the engine side mounting surface except said mounting surface is flat. A recess 10 is formed on the recessed semi-arciform surface 4 of the oil pan 2 along the whole length thereof while a recessed groove 11 is indented at the center of axial direction of the semi-arciform protruded mounting surface 7 of the oil seal retainer 6 along the whole periphery of circumferential direction of the semi-arciform protruded mounting surface 7 and a part of the flat mounting surface. The liquid gasket is coated on the recessed groove 11 and is half dried or dried, thereafter, the liquid gasket is coated on the whole periphery of the mounting surface 3 of the oil pan 2 and, then, both of them are pressed and fixed.

    • PURPOSE:To maintain a liquid gasket to the prescribed thickness by coating a mating surface of one member with the liquid gasket, dropping spherical granules on the liquid gasket at suitable intervals, and thereafter connecting the other member with that mating surface. CONSTITUTION:When mating surfaces of two members are sealed by a liquid gasket, the mating surface of one member 2 to be sealed is coated with the liquid gasket 3 supplied from a coating nozzle 4, and granules 6 are dropped on the liquid gasket 3 at suitable intervals from an extrusion nozzle 5 integral with the coating nozzle 4. Accordinly, the liquid gasket 3 is maintained to the prescribed thickness and the noise caused by the contact of the two members is prevented, as well as the sealing ability therebetween is improved. Further, the coating operation of the liquid gasket 3 is smoothed by supplying the liquid gasket 3 and the granules 6 separately as described above.
