摘要： PURPOSE:To develop a cutting tool which has excellent wear resistance and is high in reliability by coating a rigid layer consisting of both one or more kinds of carbide, nitride, oxide and boride of specified metal and alumina on the surface of a base material of extremely hard sintered alloy which has carbide, nitride and carbonitride of specified metal as a rigid phase and has iron group metals as a bonding phase. CONSTITUTION:Sintered hard alloy having composition satisfying a formula I in the contents of free carbon [FC] and nitrogen [N] incorporated in the composition is obtained by sintering alloy which has carbide, nitride and carbonitride of groups 4a, 5a, 6a metals such as Ti, Nb, Ta and W in the periodic table as a rigid phase and has iron group metals such as Fe, Ni and Co as a bonding layer. The surface of a cutting tool having the above-mentioned sintered hard alloy as base alloy is coated by one or more kinds of carbide, nitride, oxide, boride and solid soln. of groups 4a, 5a, 6a metals in the periodic table or by rigid alumina at a single layer or multilayers. Thereby the cutting tool made of coated sintered hard alloy is developed which is large in toughness and wear resistance and excellent in reliability.

摘要： PURPOSE:To manufacture the subject cermet having uniform high hardness and smooth surface by subjecting an alloy contg. double carbon nitride such as Ti and Ta as a hard dispersion phase to a hot isostatic pressing treatment in a case of a double carbon nitride sintered body. CONSTITUTION:The carbide of Ti, Ta, Nb, W and Mo is subjected to a heat treatment in a nitrogen stream to obtain the double carbon nitride for the hard dispersion having, by atomic ratio, 0.5-0.95 Ti amt. in metallic atoms and 0.1-0.9 N amt. in nonmetallic atoms. Ni and Co, 3-50wt.%, are added to said double carbon nitride as a bonding metallic phase to sinter. Said sintered alloy is subjected to a hot isostatic pressing treatment in the case prepd. by subjecting the double carbon nitride of Ti, Ta, Nb, W and Mo, preferably the one having the compsn. same as that of the double carbon nitride for the above- mentioned alloy to compression molding and sintering. By this method, the nitrogen-contg. cermet having excellent toughness, having uniform hardness from the surface to the inner part and having good surface roughness can be obtd.
