The LED 135 is disposed on the housing and notifies a user of the variation in the state of the image forming apparatus 100 by turning on and off. The LED 145 is disposed in a place other than the housing and notifies the user of the state of the image forming apparatus 100 by turning on and off. The ICU controller 210 has power supply stopped during an energy saving mode and carries out operation control for the whole image forming apparatus 100 including control of an image forming process section during a ready mode. The power controller 220 has power supplied during the ready mode and during the energy saving mode, and controls power supply to configuration sections of the image forming apparatus 100.
