    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for continuously melting or refining melt preventing glass or a glass ceramic product from yellowing due to the mixing from furnace wall and preventing scattering effect from occurring, and enabling continuous operation for at least two months, in the method of continuously producing glass or a glass ceramic product from glass melt.
      SOLUTION: Such a skull crucible that the bottom part of a crucible for heating a glass melt up to a prescribed temperature therein is formed with a non-conductive but thermally conductive material, preferably with a nitride ceramic of which oxygen content is less than 2 mol%, and the side wall and the bottom part of the crucible are cooled such that a skull layer is formed on the inside of the crucible and, at the same time, the skull crucible is provided with a coil for applying a high-frequency electromagnetic field at the same time.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide preferably lead- and arsenic-free optical glasses suitable for the application fields of imaging, projection, sensors, microscopy, medical technology, digital projection, photolithography, laser technology, wafer/chip technology, and for telecommunication, optical communications engineering and optics/lighting in the automotive sector, having a refractive index of 1.83≤n d ≤1.95 and an Abbe number of 24≤ν d ≤35 with good chemical resistance and excellent crystallization stability. SOLUTION: The optical glass comprises the following composition (in mass% based on oxide): SiO 2 2-8, B 2 O 3 15-22, La 2 O 3 35-42, ZnO 10-18, TiO 2 9-15, ZrO 2 3-10, Nb 2 O 5 4-10, and WO 3 >0.5-3. Besides a maximum GeO 2 , Ag 2 O and BaO proportion of 5 mass% each, as well as the conventional fining agents, they may additionally contain up to at most in total 5 mass% of the oxides (Al 2 O 3 , MgO, CaO, SrO, P 2 O 5 ) and up to at most in total 5 mass% of the components (F, Ta 2 O 5 ).
