    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an end-pumped externally resonating surface-emitting laser which increases the absorption of a pump beam in an active layer by reutilizing the pump beam through a pump beam reflecting layer.
      SOLUTION: The externally resonating surface-emitting laser comprises an active layer 33 for emitting signal light having a predetermined wavelength; an external mirror 36 which is separately opposed to the top surface of the active layer 33, allows the passage of a part of the signal light generated in the active layer 33, outputs the signal light to the outside, and reflects a part of the signal light to the active layer; a first reflecting layer 32 which is in contact with the underside of the active layer 33, and reflects the signal light generated in the active layer 33 to the external mirror 36; a pump laser 35 which emits a pump beam for exciting the active layer 33 to the underside of the active layer 33; and a second reflecting layer 34 which is in contact with the top surface of the active layer 33, and reflects, in the opposite direction, the pump beam having passed through the active layer 33 such that the pump beam is absorbed again by the active layer 33.

A current interruption layer is arranged between a second electrode layer and the active region for forming an opening. A current injection region can be positioned in a resonator formed between the opening part and the through part of the second electrode.
