    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device achieving electric power saving by decreasing the light emission quantity of a backlight, in which further electric power saving is made possible by reducing the light emission quantity of the backlight when pixels with relatively low luminance are present in a large number and the luminance degrades.
      SOLUTION: A drive circuit of an image display device displaying an image by irradiating a display screen with light from a backlight is provided, which has a backlight control section 104 including: a histogram counting section 201 counting display data 208 to obtain a histogram and determining a value at a specified position of the histogram as a selected data value 211; a display data extension section 202 extending the display data 208 based on the selected data value 211; and a backlight voltage regulation section 104 regulating the emission voltage of the backlight based on the selected data value 211. The histogram counting section 201 counts to obtain a weighted histogram by using a weighted value according to the value of the display data 208.

Write timing into the final line on the changed partial display area in the partial storage device 110 is decided from an address counter 108 which controls the partial storage device and the mask switch 112 is controlled so as to select the image data of the partial storage device from a subsequent frame.
