A light projected from an optional light source 7 is cast to the confronting track, and the reflecting light is modulated by the change of the reflectivity of the grating pattern of the tracks. The intensity of the modulated reflecting light is photoelectrically converted by the element 8 pairing with the light, source 7. Accordingly, a bit signal corresponding to the track can be obtained.

摘要： PURPOSE:To detect the rotating amount of a rotary shaft of a small radius at low costs and considerably accurately by detecting the movement of a silhouette pattern generated when a lattice pattern is illuminated by a light source consequent upon the rotation of the rotary shaft. CONSTITUTION:This measuring apparatus has a scale 2, a light source 1 and an optical sensor 5. The scale 2 is cylindrical or conical, having the diameter larger than that of a rotary shaft 4a. A lattice pattern 3 is formed in the peripheral surface of the scale 2. Moreover, the scale 2 is coaxially mounted with the rotary shaft 4a. The light source 1 projects light to the lattice pattern 3 of the scale 2 so as to generate a silhouette pattern. The optical sensor 5 as a photodetecting means detects the movement of the silhouette pattern generated when the lattice pattern 3 is illuminated by the light source 1 as the rotary shaft 4a is rotated. Since the lattice pattern 3 for generating a silhouette pattern is formed in the peripheral surface of the scale 2 of the larger diameter than that of the rotary shaft the rotating amount of which is to be measured, the lattice pattern can be formed easily and positively with fine pitches.

摘要： PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain an intended lattice pattern, especially a lattice having a very minute lattice pattern, readily and positively by releasing a metal layer that is laminated on a pattern comprising colloid particles, using said metal layer as a master block, and transferring the pattern to an intended medium on which the pattern is transferred. CONSTITUTION:A lattice pattern is written on a magnetic recording layer 6 of a magnetic recording medium 1 with a magnetic head 2. Then, a magnetized pattern 4 in conformity to the lattice pattern is formed. Magnetic colloid fluid is applied on the magnetic recording layer 6 formed on the pattern 4. Then, a pattern 7 comprising the colloid particles having the same pitch as that of the pattern 4 is obtained. Therefore, a thin metal layer 8 and a metal layer 9 are laminated on the pattern 7. Thereafter, the thin metal layer 8 and the metal layer 9 are released as a unitary body, and a reinforcing metal substrate 10 is bonded. A master block 100 for the transfer of the lattice pattern obtained in this way is used, and the irregularities of the surface of the thin metal film 8 are transferred to a medium on which the irregularities are transferred. Then, an element having the intended lattice pattern can be obtained.

The pattern of the larger pitches is written in the area 15B in such a manner that one unit of the pattern 'is constituted of a pattern shaped in close stripes in the direction intersecting the direction of a track'. Then, this magnetized pattern is developed by a magnetic fluid and fixed and thereby a desired scale is obtained. According to this constitution, the scale can be prepared very easily by writing by a magnetic head and the development and fixation by the magnetic fluid.
