      SOLUTION: The gas meter is provided with a main flow channel in which the adjusting means used to adjust the opening amount of a flow channel is installed, a subflow channel which bypasses the adjusting means in the main flow channel, a flow-rate detection means and a control means which controls opening/closing of the adjusting means on the basis of a corrected flow-rate value obtained by correcting and processing the detected flow-rate value of the flow-rate detection means. The control means controls the adjusting means to the position of a first opening between a fully closed position and a fully opened position when the corrected flow-rate value becomes a first prescribed flow-rate value or more, and it controls the adjusting means to the fully opened position when the corrected flow-rate value becomes a second prescribed flow- rate value or more higher than the first prescribed flow-rate value when the adjusting means is in the position of the first opening.

The subpassage bypasses the main passage. The failure detecting means controls to fully close the adjusting means in the event of a failure detected, and the adjusting means detects the gas leak failure, based on a measured value by the flow rate detecting means with the adjusting means fully closed. The detecting means acts for detecting the failure every first specified time. If the detected flow rate based on the measured value by the flow rate detecting means with the adjusting means fully closed in the event of the failure exceeds a first specified flow rate continuously for over a second specified time, it detects the gas leak failure.
