    • PURPOSE:To produce a sound ultrathick steel plate in good yields by rotating a material to be rolled which is rolled to a sectional shape having projecting parts in the rolling direction by changing of the pass or biting back during rolling horizontally 90 deg. and rolling the same smoothly. CONSTITUTION:Only the one end part in the width direction of a material 6' to be rolled of width W1 is rolled in the width direction with flat rolls 5''. Next, the other end part in the width direction is rolled with rolls 5''. Thereby, the material 6'' with width W2 and a projecting shape in section is obtained. This is rotated 90 deg. in the horizontal plane, and is rolled in the longitudinal direction with the rolls 5'', whereby the product 6''' with width W3 is produced. In this way, high rolling stresses (compressive stresses) are generated in the central part of the material 6'' and the press-fixing of defective parts having center porosities is accelerated, whereby the internal quality is made sounder.
