    • PURPOSE:To adjust the distance between body images over a wide range by varying the remaining refracting index of one lens in the direction of an optical axis except a part which has specific thickness in the optical-axis direction and also varying the refractive index of the other lens radially from the optical axis to the outer periphery. CONSTITUTION:Divergent light beams emitted by a light source 1 are made incident on an objective 10 and converged on the recording surface 5A through the optical lens 10. Then, the lens 10 is constituted by arranging the convex surfaces of two plano-convex lenses 2 and 4 opposite each other in contact and fixing them in a common lens barrel 6. This lens barrel 6 is moved by an external driving mechanism to and away from the surface of the disk 5 to make a focus adjustment. Then, the lens 2 is constant in refractive index at the constant-distance thickness pare from the lens surface 2A on the light source side in the optical axis direction and varies in refractive index at the remaining part in the optical-axis direction and also has a constant refractive index distribution in a plane perpendicular to the optical axis. The object-side lens 4 varies in refractive index gradually and radially from the optical axis to the outer periphery and has a constant refractive index distribution in parallel to the optical axis.

    • PURPOSE:To improve productivity and spherical aberration characteristics with small- sized, lightweight constitution by forming a prescribed distributed index lens and satisfying specific expressions as to refractive indexes, a constant of a refractive index distribution, radii of curvature of surfaces, focal lengths, a numerical aperture, and angles of normals to the surfaces and an optical axis. CONSTITUTION:The distributed index lens which has parallel cylindrical incidence and projection surfaces and a refractive index shown by an equation I at distance (r) from the center axis satisfies expressions II-VIII. The equality II which specifies the radius R of curvature of a surface allows numbers of lenses having parallel incidence and projection surfaces to be polished at the same time and reduces the cost and the inequality III limits the center and outermost peripheral refractive index of the lens; the inequality V corrects the spherical aberration, and the inequality VI reduces the size of the lens, the inequality VII collimates light intensely, and the inequality VIII prevents reflected light from a surface to a light source 1. Thus, the productivity is improved with the small-sized, lightweight constitution to reduce the manufacture cost.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized and lightweight optical information recording and reproducing element having small aberration and high optical performance by forming a projected curved surface on the incident surface of light flux and a plane surface on its projected surface and constituting the element of a transparent cylindrical body forming the distribution of refractive indexes gradually reduced from the center axis to the periphery. CONSTITUTION:The element 2 is constituted of a transparent cylindrical body consisting of glass, composite resin, etc. and forming the distribution of refractive indexes gradually reduced in the radius direction from the center axis 5 to the periphery. The direction of the end surface of the element 2 is very important and the end surface 2A with a projected curved surface and the plane end surface 2B should be arranged on the light source 1 side and the recording medium 4 side respectively. If the arrangement of these end surfaces are reversed, light rays projected from the element are projected from a refractive surface on the recording medium side with a relatively large angle to its normal line, so that higher aberration is generated on the refractive surface, the correction of spherical aberration may be lacked at the periphery of the element and out-of-axis characteristics are remarkably deteriorated because of the increment of the unsatisfied quantity of sine conditions. When the end surface of the element on the light source side is formed as the projected curved surface and the end surface on the recording medium side is formed as the plane, the light is refracted twice on both the end surfaces of the element, so that the spherical aberration can be suppressed at a low level and the sine conditions can be satisfied.

    • PURPOSE:To satisfactorily correct a chromatic aberration and a tertiary aberration by a small number of lenses, by combining at least one piece each of lenses by which a refractive index of a medium is heterogeneous, especially, increases or decreases in an axially symmetric manner against an optical axis. CONSTITUTION:When (r), N00, and N10 denote a distance from an axis of a light beam 3, a refractive index on an optical axis, and refractive index distribution constant, respectively, a P lens 1 of N10 0 are combined by using a medium whose refractive index distribution becomes N(r)=N00+N10r . Subsequently, N10 of 486.1nm, 587.6nm, and 656.3nm wavelength is denoted as N10F, N10d, and N10C, respectively, nu10=N10d/(N10F-N10C) denotes an Abbe number of a distribution constant, and Abbe numbers of the P lens 1 and the L lens 2 are denoted as nu10P and nu10N, respectively. In such a way, at the time of nu10P/nu10N>2, a primary chromatic aberration of an optical system can be corrected satisfactorily. Also, a correction of a tertiary monochromatic aberration can be performed by adjusting the distribution constant N10, and giving a curvature.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a residual wave front aberration, and to execute recording and reproduction with a high density, by constituting the titled lens of two pieces consisting of an object field side lens whose refractive index is uniform, and an image field side lens for specifying a refractive index in a distance extending from an optical axis to a radical direction. CONSTITUTION:As for an object field side lens 3, its object field side refracting surface 3A is a spherical surface having a radius of curvature R1, its image field side refracting surface 3B is a spherical surface having a radius or curvature R2, and both the surfaces 3A, 3B have a convex curvature against the object field side. Also, as for an image field side lens, its object field side refracting surface 4A is a spherical surface having the same radius of curvature R2 as 3B of the object field side lens 3, and also, has a convex curvature, and constituted of one group and two pieces by sticking jointly the surface 3B and 4A. Also, as for the object field side lens 3, the refractive index n1 is uniform in all parts, and the image field side lens 4 denotes a refractive index on the center axis as n0, and a refractive index n(r) in a distance of (r) in the radial direction from the center axis has a refractive index gradient as shown by the expression.
