    • PURPOSE: To detect a Coriolis force with a simple structure by oscillating a bar-like body which exhibits a piezoelectric effect and has a rectangular cross section in a shear mode and detecting the electric signal corresponding to the inertial force. CONSTITUTION: A beam 1 is constituted of a rectangular plate 40 formed by using the crystal of a bismuth-germanium oxide so that the axes of the crystal can become the axes Ox, Oy, and Oz of the plate 40. The thickness of the plate 40 is made thicker at the central part 41 than that at end sections 42 and 43 and the plate 40 is supported by fixing both ends of the plate 40 to a substrate. When exciting electrodes 44 and 45 are formed on both surfaces of the central part 41 and a voltage V is applied across the electrodes 44 and 45 by connecting terminals T9 and T10 to the electrodes 44 and 45, an electric field is produced in the direction of the axis Oy and a shear deformation occurs in the plane yz of the plate 40. When a torque Ω acts in the direction perpendicular to the plate 40 in such a state, an inertial force in the direction of the axis Ox generates an electric field in the direction of the axis Oz due to a shearing action and Coliolis effect 3 along the axis Oz. The intensity of the electric field in the direction Oz, namely, the acted turnover can be detected when the generated voltage is detected with detecting electrodes 46 and 47 and 48 and 49 which are arranged in point symmetry.
