    • PURPOSE: To prevent damage of bearing and to eliminate single contact by supporting the propeller shaft by means of first bearing provided on the stern member and second bearing provided on a bearing supporting member on the surface of hull while fixing a propeller on a propeller shaft provided between both bearings.
      CONSTITUTION: First bearing 11 is provided on a bearing boss 5 of stern member 4 while second bearing 12 is provided on a rudder horn 14 which is a projected section for supporting a rudder 13. The propeller shaft 2 is projected rearwarely from first bearing 11 where the rear end section is held by second bearing 12. Then a propeller 1 is fixed to a propeller shaft 2 between both bearings 11, 12. Since the propeller shaft 2 supports the heavy member or propeller 1, excessive load due to bending moment will never be applied on the bearings 11, 12.

CONSTITUTION:The Archimedean screw 1a on the port side of the bow part is made to be a left-handed screw and is rotated counterclockwise, while the Archimedean screw 1b on the starboard side is made to be a right-handed screw and is rotated clockwise. when the ship's hull rides onto an ice plate 15, the directions of the forces exerted on the ice plate by screw blades are directions of the arrows R, L, respectively, so that the broken ice pieces 16 are moved to the central side of the ship's hull, and are removed astern. Accordingly, by causing the screws to so act as to collect the broken ice pieces toward the center of the ship's hull and remove them, the ice-breaking operation can be conducted smoothly in a stable condition.

    • PURPOSE:To enable fixing of the ice breaking screw to low draft line vessel, by providing an Archimedian screw at the bow in parallel with the center line of the hull then positioning the leading edge on the draft line and driving through an universal joint. CONSTITUTION:An Archimedian screw 1 is fixed through bearings 7-9 to the bow in parallel with the center line of the hull. The screw 1 is provided while inclining such that the leading edge is positioned on the draft line 6 to facilitate running onto the ice plate 10. The rotation of an engine 17 is transmitted through a torque converter 16, universal joint 14 and a speed reduction gear 11 to the drive shaft 13. By means of the universal joint 14, diagonal driving of screw is enabled to enable fixing of Archimedian screw to a low draft line vessel.
