    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce impact force generated between a valve head portion and a valve seat in seating by reducing the speed when the valve head portion is seated without being influenced by error factors such as a tappet clearance.
      SOLUTION: In this valve gear for an internal combustion engine, the valve head portion is provided, a valve rod 114 is downwardly moved by a swing arm 107 in order to perform opening operation, and the valve head portion is seated on the valve seat by a valve spring 102 attached to the valve rod 114. The valve gear includes an air spring 2 composed of a platelike air spring cover 6 integrally moved in conjunction with the valve rod 114 and a dish-shaped air spring disc 4 whose position is fixed and having a recessed portion formed in a lower portion. In the air spring 2, the air spring cover 6 is entered into the recessed portion when a valve is closed, and the air spring cover 6 is positioned outside of the recessed portion when the valve is opened. A clearance is formed between the air spring cover 6 and the air spring disc 4. The clearance is so set that the spring force of the valve spring 102 is stronger than force received by the air spring cover 6 by compression of air in the recessed portion when the air spring cover 6 is entered into the recessed portion.
