    • PURPOSE:To improve extensibility without spoiling the transparency, heat- resistant property, resistance to chemicals, separatability and the like of poly(4- methylpentene-1), by a method wherein the molding of poly(4-methylpentene-1), containing the specified amount of unsaturated carbonic acid or the derivative thereof as the amount of graft, is oriented under a temperature up to the melting point thereof. CONSTITUTION:The molding of poly(4-methylpentene-1), containing 2X 10 -1X10 wt% of unsaturated carbonic acid or the derivative thereof as the amount of graft, is oriented under a temperature up to the melting point of the molding. The extensibility of the poly(4-methylpentene-1) under a tempera ture up to the melting point of the same is improved by grafting the poly(4- methylpentene-1) with the small amount of unsaturated carbonic acid or the derivative thereof whereby an oriented molding, excellent in transparency, rigidity, electric properties or shrinkability, may be obtained. When the containing amount of unsaturated carbonic acid or the derivative thereof is up to 2X10 , the extensibility of the molding is not improved, however, when the containing amount of the same exceeds 1X10 wt%, the molding becomes cloudy and the appearance of the same may be spoiled.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an ingredient which, when compounded into a coating compsn., improves the applicability and drying characteristics of the compsn. and also improves the weatherability, water resistance, adhesive properties, heat resistance, etc., of a coating film resulting from the compsn. CONSTITUTION:The ingredient comprises a hydrocarbon resin which is obtd. by polymerizing a monomer mixture substantially consisting of a hydrocarbon (A) selected from the group consisting of a 3-10C unsatd. linear hydrocarbon and an 8-16C arom. hydrocarbon having an unsatd. side chain and at least one hydrocarbon (B) selected from the group consisting of a 1,2- dihydrodicyclopentadiene compd., a 2-norbornene compd., an alkylidenenorbornane compd., an alkylidenecyclohexene compd., a vinylnorbornane compd., a vinylcyclohexane compd., and a cyclohexene compd. in the presence of a polymn. catalyst, composed of 20-98mol% units derived from the hydrocarbon A and 2-80mol% units derived from the hydrocarbon B, and has a softening point of 60-170 deg.C, a melt viscosity of 10-10,000cp, and a number-average mol.wt. of 300-3,000.
